November 2009 Newsletter

Happy Thanksgiving!!

November is the month for giving thanks.  First we thank our military veterans for their sevice to our country, then we thank God for His blessings - which includes a big thank you for our beloved pets.  We at the Mid-South Bunny Museum are giving thanks for our third year in producing these monthly newsletters, and for all the nice feedback we get from our readers.  All our past newsletters are available on this website.

And what follows the season of giving thanks?  Why, the season of giving gifts, of course.  To get a jump on Christmas gifts for your house rabbit here is a great selection offered by Jenny and Terrie at the Bunny Bytes:  Christmas Gifts

Calendars are always a good gift idea.  Here are bunny calendars offered by the House Rabbit Network
HRN Calendar ,  and by BunSpace  Rabbit Calendar
The great people at the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society are to be congratulated.  Not only were they instrumental in convincing Petco and their 950 stores to stop selling rabbits but also to help in educating the public to first consider adopting abandoned rabbits.  Fox News congratulated them by doing a two minute segment which included a demonstration of the agility of the rabbits they have rescued and brought back to good health.  Here is the link to see the TV spot:  MCRS News

Megan Chaney, Founder of Luv-A-Bun Rescue Group in South Florida, was featured in the Sun Sentinel.  The article tells of the horrid conditions inflicted on the rabbits.  Some of the babies were found dead, but those rescued were all nursed back to health and spayed and neutered for free by participating vets.  A short video of Megan being interviewed about how their rescue organization works can be viewed along with the article at:  34 Rabbits Rescued

Along the same lines we are happy to announce that Governor Beshear of Kentucky has just signed a law making it a felony to abuse animals.

And along the same lines we are sad to announce that the Humane Society in Tacoma, Washington is going to euthanize a rabbit named Copper because he bit one of the attendants.  It is the Humane Society's policy to put animals that bite to death.  A great outcry has taken place over this showing how beloved rabbits have
become as pets.  Read the story at:  www.komonews.com/news/local/70723562.html,   and view the local TV News station's coverage of this episode at:  www.komonews.com/news/local/70723562.html?tab=video

Where's The Bunny?

Does your pet have a favorite hiding place?  I know our Bincy Bunny loves it under the bed (her clubhouse).  The folks at BunSpace ran a contest for the best hiding place photo.  250 pictures have been submitted and we can vote for our favorite.  They are all adorable!  Just put your cursor over the picture and it will automatically enlarge.  We like the one where the rabbit is hiding under the cat.  Check it out at:  Hiding Place

Dove Protects Baby Rabbits Attacked By A Dog

If you haven't seen the pictures of the one-legged dove whose name is Noah, and how he has gathered three little rabbits under his wings you need to do your heart a favor and check it out:  Noah the Dove.

Have You Considered Cremating You Pet?

Many people cremate their pet and keep the ashes in an urn to feel close to their beloved friend.  I talked to Bill of Heart Song Memory Beads recently and he told me how his wife makes beautiful glass beads to contain ashes.  The first one she did was in memory of their son who died.  Now many people have done the same for their pets.  Find out all about it at:  Heart Song.

And if glass work is of interest to you, how about stained glass artwork.  We have two stained glass windows in the bunny museum.  Here is a stained glass of a rabbit along with the pattern to make one for yourself found at:

Fall Weather A Favorite For Rabbits

Rabbits love the Fall season and show it by become more frisky.  Our 2 1/2 year old Floppy-Ear Bincy Bunny became so frisky recently that she was able to squeeze her way behind our entertainment center for the very first time and chewed through our AT&T U-verse cord.  We received prompt sevice from AT&T, and a prompt bill for $56.00 - and we thought the Mid-South Bunny Museum was bunny proof.
