Rabbit World View March 2010 NewsletterMarch Hare
Did the month of March gets it name from the March Hare or was it the other way around? Actually, the month of March was named for the Roman god Mars. It was the first month in the year of the Roman calendar. And why do we bring this up? Because we went to see the 3-D movie "Alice In Wonderland" this month in which the March Hare plays a strong supporting role bringing much comic relief to Tim Burton's dramatic version of this famous story (included are characters from "Through A Looking Glass"). Although rated PG, this movie is quite violent in places, and is similar in ways to "The Chronicles of Narnia". We thoroughly enjoyed the flick (our first 3-D movie - amazing technology and special effects), especially seeing our favorite character from the story, the White Rabbit, playing a significant role. This movie set the record for the highest gross receipts for an opening weekend, $115 million. As usual, Rabbits Rule!! Another Movie Featuring Rabbits
Were you aware of a movie featuring rabbits that was nominated for an Oscar this year? It is a documentary called "Rabbit a la Berlin". It is about the history of the building of the Berlin Wall in 1962 until its being torn down in 1987 from the viewpoint of the rabbit colony that lived unpreturbed between the two walls composing it. You can view a trailer from this amazing movie at: Rabbit a la Berlin Bonding Bunnies Update
We tried letting our four month old Blackie Bunny roam free at the same time as our three year old Mini-Lop, Bincy Bunny, but all he wants to do is mount her (he is in love!). You see, Blackie is not yet neutered (but will be later this month). So for now they roam the house at different intervals. Since Blackie is part Lionhead, we thought you might like to view this very short video of a Lionhead rabbit that actually roars: Roaring Lionhead. And for a short video of a bonded pair of rabbits you might enjoy this humorous episode in the life of Jack & Liv: Bunny Love (under three minutes). Video Of The Month
Our Video of the Month was recommended to us by Cameron of Pennsacola, Florida. She is one of a multitude of unsung heroes all across America who have small rabbit rescue shelters without benefit of a 501(c)(3) status and with little support from their community or nearby humane organizations. If you live in Cameron's area and want to help her, please contact us. ![]() Here is the video done by three Europeans who have built a skywalk for their rabbit. They not only filmed it for us, but composed a song about it and sing it themselves. Their skywalk is a really a cool idea. Check it out: Rabbit Skywalk (just under three minutes). Reality Check
Bunny lover, Caroline, contacted us this past month with a heads up about an article in the New Y ork Times that features a restaurant that serves rabbit meat. If that was not alarming enough, they also held classes for people who wanted to learn how to kill rabbits. Caroline sent The Times an excellent letter calling on them to cease and desist from any further articles in this vein. You can read the artilcle for yourself (if you have the stomach for it) at: Hip-Hop Cuisine To write a letter of disapproval as Caroline and we have done here is the email address: letters@nytimes.comMore Dark Side News
In New Jersey a 400 pound black bear came into the yard of a private residence, tore through a screened-in patio and ate the pet rabbit, all while the family was in the next room. A 911 call brought the police who shot and killed the bear. You can read the article and view a video about the incident at: Bear Eats Pet Rabbit The Easter Bunny Cometh
All dedicated bunny lovers know the tragedy of cute little bunnies being purchased as Easter presents for children only to be soon discarded because those involved were not educated in rabbit care and responsibility. The good people at Make Mine Chocolate have some great ideas on getting the message out to help alleviate this tiresome annual problem. See their website: Make Mine ChocolateAnd while you are eating your chocolate rabbits this Easter, you might want to take this Rabbit Quiz at Squigley's Playhouse. We received a score of 8 out of 10. ![]() Just as the colorful leaves of Fall are caused by their dying, so the manifold growth of flowers and vegetation of Spring are caused by regeneration. In this time of newness of life all around, we wish you renewed strength and vigor to fully enter into whatever it is you find to do, for that is where true satisfaction in life is found. And of course, this especially concerns the taking care of our companion rabbits, and all our pets. David & Linda Mid-South Bunny Museum |
