Summer In The Southland
Summer has come early at the Mid-South Bunny Museum. If you are planning on a visit during one of our heatwaves (that's June-September) you might want to visit the Sno-Bunny Sno-Cone stand. They have a great selection of flavors and you can even have a picture taken by their sign along the highway. Stop! Look! Listen! ![]() Have you seen the T-shirt that says "My wife says I don't listen ....... or something like that"? Listening is one of the best ways to demonstrate love. Learning to listen to our house rabbits is especially important. Rabbits will hide it from us when they are not feeling well or in pain (an instinctual trait so they won't attract predators). Intently observe your pet on a regular basis. Learn their habits and ways. And while you are at it, maybe concentrating a little harder when loved ones are speaking might be a good idea also - ha ha. Rabbit Earthquake Warning Devise
Speaking of listening and being attentive, here is a story shared by Brad Robinson on the EtherBun list. We have always known our buns are in a realm of perception all their own, and Brad's true story backs this up. This incident took place in Fremont, California:
"Last night our 3-year old Mini Rex started thumping in the kitchen for no apparent reason. When I went in to
check on her, she was on high alert - ears up high - body rigid - intently focused. My wife and I worked on calming her down, thinking that a cat or skunk must have walked through the backyard. 10 minutes later, we got hit with a single jolt from a 3.8 magnitude earthquake centered 8 miles east of our house. Not a biggie as earthquakes go, but big enough to get our attention. Now, I don't really know if our bunny was reacting to the seismic activity, but I find it interesting that her thumps were not her usual fare AND she was pointing towards the epicenter (not the backyard) when she alerted us. I can only surmise that she knew about it way before we did. I'll certainly listen to her alerts more from this point forward. I wonder if I can train her to focus that attention on finding a pot of gold?".Good luck with the pot of gold, Brad, but in the meantime maybe you can make some money by renting your bunny out for scientific observation at the Northwestern Polytechnic Institute. Real Life Horror Story ![]() We love all of God's creatures. We think Doberman Pinschers are fine dogs if properly trained and cared for. Unfortunately some guardians make their pets do bad things. Earlier this month a man in Salem, Oregon was charged with animal abuse when he ordered his Doberman Pinscher to attack and kill a rabbit in a city park in front of children. Read about this low-life 33 year old male here: Doberman/Rabbit Sink Your Teeth Into This A rabbits teeth grow constantly throughout their life. A common, and serious problem in house rabbits is malocclusion where the bunny's teeth do not meet correctly. This is a big problem with rabbit breeders who do not know what they are doing. Fortunately a qualified Vet can operate and correct or improve the situation. One such doctor is Dr. May of Pearland, Texas. You can watch a very informative seven minute video of him operating on a cute little bun named Stella. But if you do not like dentist visits maybe you might want to pass this one up - ha ha. ![]() We did an article on Coney Island and its amuzement park awhile ago telling of its past glory (coney is another name for a rabbit). As of this year a brand new amuzement park has been built on ConeyIsland with the same name as the original "Lunar Park". You can refresh your mind by reading our artilce (Coney Island), and also check out the ABC news article about the new Lunar Park and its exciting rides at: Lunar Park Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland"
The Disney/Ti m Burton collaberation "Alice In Wonderland" is now out on DVD and Blu-Ray. We have seen it in 3-D and now in 2-D, both are wonderful. Because we love Lewis Carroll's story we were sceptical that the movie would be set in dark sceneries. To our pleasant surprize, this is one of the most colorful movies we have ever seen. Here is our review: Alice In Wonderland. The Bincy & Blackie Bonding Saga
On Father's Day for a short while we let three year old Bincy bunny and seven-month old Blackie Bunny meet up without benefit of a wire fence. It went well. They are on their way to becoming best friends. It has been fascinating to watch these two buns respond to one another over the course of this year. House rabbits are so humanlike in so many ways. Our local weatherman has issued a heat warning for the next few days. If the heat is a danger to people, it is especially dangerous to house rabbits. Rabbits handle the cold much better than the heat so keep those pets in a cool, comfortable place. Wishing you fun in the sun, David & Linda Mid-South Bunny Museum |
