Rabbit World View July 2010 NewsletterHot Cross Buns Is it ever hot this summer - whew! For those without central air conditioning make sure your buns stay nice and cool or they will get cross. Rabbits can take the cold much better than the heat. You see, rabbits do not sweat. Their air conditioning system is in their ears. Blood first flows to the ears where it is closer to the air and then to the rest of the body. A rabbit's body temperature is normally 102*. Panting is another means buns utilize to keep cool. Many guardians will put a frozen water bottle in the bunny's cage for relief, or put a wet towel over the cage with a fan blowing on it. Whatever is done, by all means keep your pets cool during these scorching months of summer. Too Hot In The Kitchen ![]() In Sunset Magazine's July 2010 issue on page 16 the article "The West at its Best" features artisan food traditions extolling the good taste of rabbit meat. We can't imagine Sunset Magazine extolling the virtues of eating dog or cat meat, can you? She even had cosmetic surgery done, as well as going on a special diet to get those Jessica Rabbit curves. It is great for hurrying to the bunny store for lettuce and hay because we always seem to be running late for a very important date. We are always on the lookout for unique bunny items for the museum. Recently we came across this scotch tape holder in the shape of a bunny at our local Walmart. It is definitely a museum worthy item.Bunny Bonding Success We are so happy to report that our three-year old Mini-Lop Bincy Bunny and our six month old Blackie Bunny have successfully bonded. In fact, they have become almost inseparable. If only humans could bond the way these two house rabbits have done, then the world could be a nicer place. ![]() It is a sign of great grace when love continues in a family. And although we know how people can "wub us the wong way", we wish for you and your family great grace, David & Linda Mid-South Bunny Museum |
