Rabbit World View February 2010 NewsletterLove At The Mid-South Bunny Museum
It's been a month since we featured our new bunny, Blackie. You can see how much he has grown! He and Bincy bunny are still getting used to each other as part of the bonding process. They like to "kiss" through the pen fencing so hopefully when we put them together they will become lovebirds, ... we mean, "lovebunnies". We will continue to keep you posted.Adopt A Rescued Rabbit Month February is the offical adopt a rescued rabbit month. What a great way to show love for our animal friends by giving them a forever home. When considering becoming a rabbit guardian always check first at your local animal shelter. Many times rabbits who are already litter trained and house broken are placed there because their guardians had to move where rabbits were not allowed. Recently one of our subscribers sadly informed us she was having to give up her house rabbit because of having to move to a section of Austraila where pet rabbits are banned altogether.
Bunny Rabbit Activism ![]() The good people at Save A Bunny want everyone concerned to know about a loophole in the law that allows rabbit fur to be used on clothing that is not labeled as such. They and the Humane Society of America are urging all of us who care to contact our Congressmen about H.R. 2480 and our Senators about S. 1076 "The Truth in Fur Labeling Act of 2009". Here is the link to learn more and to easily email your representatives: Truth in Fur Labeling Pikas Endangered? The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has recently determined that the relative of the rabbit, the little Pika, does not warrant to be placed on the endangered species list. If they had made the list, they would have been the first animals in the continental United States to be on it. These adorable little creatures live in the high elevations so it has been determined they are as yet not threatened by Global Warming's hypothetical predictions. Read more if interested at: Pikas Endangered? To learn more about the Pika, a.k.a. "The Rock Rabbit", see our article which includes a video: Rock Rabbit Alos, there is a new book out about Pikas for children but it is also great for all lovers of the Lagomorph family. It can be seen at Amazon.com as well as purchased there (see ad at end of newsletter). Video of the Month
It's a good thing for the contestants on "American Idol" that the producers do not allow animal acts try out because these five singing rabbits would wipe out all competition. See for yourself this video which is under three minutes: Singing Rabbits An Angel of a Bunny Recently the House Rabbit Society of Saint Louis, Missouri helped out a woman who chose to live on the streets rather than continue with her physically abusive husband. The only item she took with her was her pet rabbit, Ruby Angel. The abusive husband had even punched Ruby Angel in the mouth and broke out her teeth, but fortunately rabbits' teeth grow continually and Ruby Angels' teeth have grown back. You can find out more about this amazing story at the HRS St. Louis' website: Ruby Angel Energy Rabbits?
We try to keep our newsletters on a positive and fun level but it is necessary to look at the darker side from time to time. The dark side includes those people who abandon their pet rabbits into parks and woods when they no longer want them. This happens on a regular basis in Stockholm, the capitol of Sweden . The solution to the overpopulation of these feral rabbits for the locals is to shoot them and then place the carcasses in the city's heating plant for extra energy. You can read more about this sad tale at: Energy Rabbits Groundhog Phil Sees His Shadow ![]() Yep, there's only a few more weeks of winter. We are sure the people who live in areas experiencing record snowfalls will be happy to see early signs of Spring. This winter has been so severe that Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe is asking for former Vice-President Al Gore to be called back before the Senate Committee to defend things he has stated in his movie "An Inconvenient Truth" that maybe not so true after all (Climate Scandal?). One fact we are sure of here at the Mid-South Bunny Museum is that it has been a cold winter, but not for our house rabbits. They stay toasty warm and comfortable because they are greatly loved. Until next month, stay warm and blessed. David & Linda Mid-South Bunny Museum |
