Rabbit World View December 2008 NewsletterMerry Christmas
Hasn't the holiday shopping been wonderful this year with being able to listen to the stores playing "I'm Dreaming of a White Rabbit". It really puts you in the mood to hop to it and get-r-done. We have our Bunny Christmas Tree on display for our Mid-South Bunny Museum tourists, as well as our other seasonal collectibles. We hope you have Christmas traditions you enjoy as much as we do ours, as we recognize the birth of Jesus. Christmas Toys
Don't forget to buy your pets Christmas presents as well - after all, they are part of the family too. Go easy on special treats, though, especially if you have house rabbits - we don't want any upset stomachs sidetracking the holiday cheer. For pet rabbit owners, "cat tunnels" make a great gift to be enjoyed the whole year through. The one we purchased at Petco is of good quality and cost about $20.00. Our Bincy bunny will even speed through her tunnel while doing her Bunny 500's. She thinks she is competition for Jimmie Johnson. Bunny Sighting
If you ever see the movie "Amazing Grace", about how in the 19th century William Wilberforce led the movement to outlaw slave trade in the British empire, you will see several scenes which feature his pet hare he kept in the house.Speaking of movies, we have posted an article about the movie "Miss Potter". It tells the story of Beatrix Potter getting her first book published The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Renee Zelweggar does a superb job of playing Beatrix and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. We think she should have won hands down. Read the article (and we hope you will also view the movie) at "Miss Potter". Holiday Trivia
Whenever we hear "Jingle Bells" we think of Christmas time. This song was written and copyrighted by James Pierpont in 1857 with the name "One Horse Open Sleigh", and then in 1859 the title was changed to "Jingle Bells". Many stories revolve around this song. One is that a children's choir sang it at a Thanksgiving event and it was enjoyed so much that they sang it again at the Christmas program. Whatever story is to believed about "Jingle Bells" becoming such an established Christmas tune, the truth is Mr. Pierpont did not compose it for Christmas per se. You can read more about this if you like at "Jingle Bells". "Silent Night" is considered the most famous Christmas Carol of all time. It was written in 1818 by an assistant pastor, Joseph Mohr, when he was 26 years old. The tune was composed by Franz Gruber, the church organist. Neither man lived long enough to learn how popular their carol would become. In fact, it wasn't until 1997 that the true authorship was even confirmed. You can read more about this at "Silent Night". Happy New Year
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a HOPPY New Year from the Mid-South Bunny Museum. David & Linda |
