Recent CNN News Story

CNN ran a story about a study done that showed 20% of pet owners think of themselves as their pets' parents.  We were amazed - only 20%.  We thought it would be closer to 100%.  How can you not think of your beloved pets like they were your children - especially if they are bunny rabbits.  True guardians think of their pets as part of the family and treat them accordingly.

There is a downside to this story as revealed in a Wall Street Journal article where some pet guardians love their pets more than their real family.  You can check it out at:  Pets Before People

Church For Bunnies?

We love creativity and cleverness, especially when it comes to house rabbits.  There is a web site called "Church of the Cosmic Bunny" that advocates finding your Inner Bunny.  We at the Mid-South Bunny Museum embrace a traditional Christian world view but still enjoyed this "far out" New Age approach to appreciating bunnies.  You can learn about speading Bunnyness around as well as taking a test to find out which of your chakras are the most dominant.  Seeing the Creator-God as a Bunny is a bit extreme but we had fun with it.  Maybe you might also by clicking :  Cosmic Bunny

Where Have All The Bunnies Gone?

New York City's Central Park used to be a great place to see cottontail rabbits frolicing around the grounds giving the gardners fits.  But as of four years ago there are no longer any rabbits in the Park.  Some attribute this to feral cats that roam the Park.  Others say it is the racoons which carry roundworms which are deadly to rabbits.  In any case the rabbits have vanished much to the loss of those who visit the Park.  You can read more about it and watch a video at:  Central Park

Where Have All The Bunnies Come From?

Those who are aware of the bunny problem at the University of Victoria, Canada might be interested in this newscast.  A veternarian in the community is offering a solution to the overpopulation of rabbits.  The debate is intense from both sides of the issue.  The real culprits are not the rabbits but the people who have abandoned their rabbits onto the university campus.  Rabbits will be rabbits and now there are too many running around the grounds.  The News clip can be viewed here:  U of Victoria

Rabbits Are The Cleanest Animals

In keeping with the spirit of how well groomed rabbits keep themselves, Charlotte & Dan Hayer have been making soap for the past 20 years at their Laughing Rabbit Soap Company.  They don't use rabbits in their soaps (or else they wouldn't be laughing) but only vegetable, grain and essential oils - all natural.  If you have ever wondered what to buy the bunny lover who has everything, then here is your answer, a gift of a bar of Laughing Rabbit soap.  How could you go wrong?  Check out these nice "neighbors" of ours at:  Laughing Rabbit

No Laughing Matter

A Pastor of a church in Placerville, California bludgeoned three rabbits with a baseball bat in front of men and small boys at a church camp meeting for their BBQ.  At first he denied it but after an official investigation the pastor has admitted it was a mistake.  When we first came across this news we contacted the pastor and asked for his side of the story but he never responded.  We are glad he has admitted his mistake.  You can read about it yourself at:  Rabbits Killed

Also no laughing matter
was police bring seven bunnies to Christine's Criiter Care animal rescue.  These were some of the most badly abused bunnies Christine had ever seen. These precious bunnies had been bloodied on purpose in order to be more enticing as pit bull bait.  One bunny had been slashed down the front of her face and another one had his ears cut off.  The Vet told them that bunnies' ears are some of their most sensitive parts and that this rabbit's screams were probably heard for miles.  Christine and her volunteers have been rehabilitating these seven rabbits.  Not all of them have yet found forever homes.  You can check out Christine's new web site at:  Critter Care

Video Of The Month

We have chosen an oldie but goodie.  This month's video is from the great 1978 English animated movie "Watership Down".  It is the part where Hazel, the hero of the movie, is shot and his little brother, Fiver, who is clairvoyant, knows it is not unto death.  The haunting song "Bright Eyes" is sung by Art Garfunkle.  You can read our review of the DVD "Watership Down".

Hot Fun In The Summertime

It has been an unusually hot summer here at the Mid-South Bunny Museum.  Thank God for the people who invented air conditioning, and then central air.  We and our bonded bunnies have kept well sheltered from the summer heat.  How cool to watch Bincy Bunny & Blackie Bunny become such love bunnies.  It has had an amazing effect on the atmosphere in our home.  We highly recommend bonded bunnies to all who have the commitment to be house rabbit guardians.  Faith and Hope are wonderful, but Love is the greatest.  We wish you much love,

David & Linda
